"Which of my photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow." – Imogen Cunningham
I'm a photographer based out of Bettendorf, Iowa, shooting in and around the Iowa/Illinois Quad Cities, Okoboji, Naples & wherever else life takes me.
I'm fortunate enough to have been blessed with stellar family and magnificent friends.
I've had a crush on photography for decades, but like any serious relationship, it only flourished once I committed. I love to photograph almost everything. If you happen to pass along River Drive, you may see my patient dog sitting next to me while I try to capture the face of an insect, or peculiar flower, or one of the magnificent birds drawn to the Mississippi River.
That said, my favorite things include events of all kinds, music & the musicians who create the stuff, the arts, animals (especially those of the "Woof & Hoof" variety) and just about everything to do with the outdoors and the natural world.
And of course there is always my favorite subject. People.
As a kid, I learned to love photographs through my parents, grandparents, and aunts, while pouring over boxes full of old photographs. They revealed so much about the people I knew. And the people they knew.
Growing up, I was always taking photos and snapshots with some camera or another, but I didn't get serious about photography until two things happened:
First, our son was born, and that same year my wife and her parents gave me my first DSLR camera. It was that rarest of all gifts - the kind that opens a door into a whole new landscape of life you'd never even considered before. I will never be able to thank them enough. It literally changed the course of my life.
Then in 2010, my friend, Chris Reyhons opened The Ruby Slipper, now located in Bettendorf, Iowa, and she asked if I would take some photos of her store opening. A bit later, she asked me to shoot some product shots. And even though some of them were just truly awful, and I didn't know the first thing about product placement, she kept asking me to shoot more! I can't express how grateful I am that this entrepreneurial, visionary friend forced me to get out of my warm little cocoon of comfort and - simply by continuing to offer me work - forced me to start getting serious about the art of photography and the use of "real" lighting in the big , wide world. I'll be forever grateful. And although most of this work was product photography, it made me a better portrait and landscape photographer, too.
Images tell stories. They sell subscriptions, and products and political offices. But more importantly, images preserve memories of the times we've had, and the people we've loved and befriended, in the places we've been. They can make us laugh, or weep, or simply overpower us with that most precious of feelings, wonder.
If you need a portrait of your family, your fiance, your high school senior or your newborn child; your wife, or your hubby, or your "Bubby"; your animal, or your band (or your band of animals), let me know. I'd love to help.
What if you need a headshot for your big break, or just want a facebook profile portrait? Maybe you want portraits of your employees or of your storefront, or the products you sell online? Or the produce you sell at the Farmer's Market? Or photos of your flower garden? Or your blue-ribbon pot-bellied pig?
